Autostitch

Slightly intrigued by Will Self's writing room (I'm a recovering postitoholic), I decided to give Autostitch a try.

Autostitch takes a bunch of overlapping photos, and creates a panorama from them. I've known about it for quite some time, but I haven't tried it until now.

A few points:

  • The process is fully automatic; the application itself figures out how to stick the photos together to create a seamless panorama.
  • It's a windows app, but it works pretty smoothly on Linux using Wine (which still amazes me).
  • The 71 photos (71 for a 360 view? someone needs to calm the hell down with the camera) are taken from different angles, and many of them overlap a lot, so it's a terribly suboptimal set for a panorama. But hey.

Particularly that last point makes the result far from perfect, but it's still pretty nice (at least when you look at it at this small a size):

(That's a whooole lot of post-its. Yum.)
